So, I'm probably going overboard with safety tips that I've learned. the best advice I can give you is:
-Always watch what you're eating/drinking
-Explain your worries to your partner. If he's worth listening to or being with at all, he'll be understanding.
-Carry pepper spray, a knife, a noisemaker, or something similar.
-Use a buddy system.
Tips on punching, taught to me by a man who was in the army:
-Keep your wrist straight, punch fast and hard.
-Keep your thumb outside of your fingers, tucked just below them. Otherwise you can break it. Hit with your index and middle finger knuckles.
-Poking eyes makes someone defend their face, leaving the whole body open. Pulling on ears makes the head, neck, and body go with them.
-Even a small push to the dip near the bottom of the neck is enough to force anyone backwards.
-Once you have someone trying to defend any of these areas, go for the shins, stomach, and balls.
-Don't stop punching until you're safe (someone comes to help, you knock out the attacker, etc.)
-Don't try to play fair. You have been put in danger, and that means that all rules are out the window.
Have fun at the festival!
