Poll: Would you abandon your daughter if she violated a restraining order?
Let's say you have a child

PleaSE consider this and don't go all "ooo I would never have a child in the first place" OKAY. I'm sick of hearing that.

This is an alternative universe where you have brought up and raised a child..

Your child commits some kind of crime and must serve time for said crime, what sort of crime would make you abandon your child and wash your hands off of them completely? And would it be different if it was your daughter or son who did it? Or would that be the same either way regardless of gender???

Like, what crime would be "the last straw"? Drunk driving??? Violating a restraining order?? Assault on a child??

Obviously some crimes are worse than others, for example, I would want nothing to do with my child if my child sexually assaulted someone.

im not sure if anything would be the last straw
like what first comes to mind is sexual assault, domestic violence, violence against a child and murder(depending on the circumstances) but when they are your child i imagine that even then it would be hard to cut them off completely

Yeah maybe it's not that black and white, I imagine it would be difficult either way

My theory is that some parents are more strict, and don't want to associate because people are quick to blame parents in these situations like "if you would've done this or that then maybe your child wouldn't do this and that". And I can sort of understand that from that point of view

i don't think i could forgive any sexual assult or rape and of course murderer

but i think a lot people would actually protect their child? there's this famous woman in sweden named anna book, her son raped a minor... and she defended him and so and so.

rape, assault on a child, or killing that isn't self defence

are you asking this because of your situation with your mother?
honestly i dont think we cant help you beyond telling you to not violate that restraining order

Does it matter why I asked really? I'm not asking about help with that, I'm asking about what others would do if you were a parent, what would be the last straw. But it doesn't seem that a lot of people wanna talk about it because it's controversial to abandon your child. 2 people answered yes on the poll but they are probably scared to get slaughtered if they explain themselves

yea
i mean i dont mean that i would treat them just the same as i did before they committed the crime i would absolutely tell them and show them that i think what they did was wrong and i would never look at the them the same and the relationship would probably be uncomfortable but like when ive seen time and time again parents of people that did awful things still talk to them i can tell that its really not that easy

and if u were my daughter(lol) i definitely wouldnt be cutting u off especially considering i think its bc of mental illness

i think for me ~ if you go to prison you're on your own. : /

like i'm not puttin money on your books and i'm not coming to the prison to visit but when u get out of prison u can come to christmas dinner and i'll be nice but i'll try to keep a distance so u can't break my heart again.

So even if someone was in prison for lets say drunk driving they would be cut of? I think it's reasonable, and I think a lot of parents don't want any contact because they feel so much shame because people will blame parents all the time, saying things like "this is because you didn't teach them wrong from right" and stuff like that and they want to keep themselves separated from it

Why wouldn't your child do any of it, you can't predict what your child is gonna do??? Or are you like a witch or something??
