i could agree that it has become overused and blown out of proportion, but people cant just change the meaning of it

I suspect the term had been corrupted already when I first encountered it, as in people on 4chan or whatever using it as a slur in the same fashion as feminist.
Unless Monarch is right and the term always being something degrading.
Also the way I read SJW is with the same kind of tone as when some Americans use socialist as a slur, it's like.. okay then

isnt there a difference between people fighting for social justice and an sjw. i feel like sjws have kinda questionable morals even if they claim the opposite. its not something that i would associate myself with exactly

wouldnt it be like the difference between animal activism and peta. like you are fighting for something that is good. but the methods that you use to achieve that is not the best

(its from urban dictionary so i would take it with a pinch of salt)
SJW
Social Justice Warrior. A pejorative term for an individual who repeatedly and vehemently engages in arguments on social justice on the Internet, often in a shallow or not well-thought-out way, for the purpose of raising their own personal reputation. A social justice warrior, or SJW, does not necessarily strongly believe all that they say, or even care about the groups they are fighting on behalf of. They typically repeat points from whoever is the most popular blogger or commenter of the moment, hoping that they will "get SJ points" and become popular in return. They are very sure to adopt stances that are "correct" in their social circle.
