Gender Neutral Character Option?

I'm not sure how the designs work/if they'd be "transferrable" to other character bases besides M/F so maybe instead of a third option (which would mean designers would have to make three designs instead of two) there could be a way for a person to have the male and female base and just switch back and forth depending on their outfit?
