what does it even mean to be triggered? idgi

Getting triggered is when something 'triggers' a bad experience in your mind.

Like, take soldiers for example: Fireworks resemble gun shots and hearing them can trigger a couple of bad flashbacks for the soldiers – and their mind can then spiral into a panic attack/anxiety attack.

I think that's the best I can explain it right now. ^^' It is a bit difficult to put into words tbh

I'd suggest looking it up and reading more about it aha

^

you are correct in what you are saying here, but thats because the veterans that do experience triggers also suffer from ptsd, which in turn is why they have triggers

teens online that are "triggered" by for example someone saying something homophobic is just literal bullshit

i find it hard to believe that, but ill take your word for it since i haven't really read a lot about it

however, the fact that someone is triggered by reading a word on vp is just crap in my opinion, thats not a trigger its munchausen

yah. triggers are for mental illnesses in general. if you have social anxiety, crowds can trigger a panic attack. if you have depression, something can trigger a depressive episode. if you have an eating disorder something can trigger that.

i dont like how "trigger" is used when talking about ~~~crazy~~~ sjws because it waters down the word and changes meaning. normally, id argue that thats just how language evolves, but when it has one clinical definition, its actually important to stick to that

yea okay i understand, didn't know that

its hard for me to believe that every person in this topic that has said "this triggers me" actually get triggered or really just feels uncomfortable when that certain issue is discussed or mentioned. thats essentially what im trying to convey

I think it depends more on the day than a specific topic

There's lots of things that I find uncomfortable topics. But that's life. I just don't read it more if I find it uncomfortable.

Now, irritating. That's another thing !
If it's the wrong day and I get irritated I can't help but subject myself to it. Which is stupid, bc it's not like I'd get less irritated by expressing it and by default being answered to.

nah sensitive topics or topics that upset me to the point of makign me feel bad for a few hours
bbut i wouldn't call it triggering y'know, like then i think more of shit that sends u into panic or sth
