***Trigger warning***
My neighbours, whom I actually have never met nor seen, own this creepy so called âhaunted houseâ in our neighbourhood. Me and my two friends have decided to walk inside during halloween, which is tomorrow, and I am so excited and horrified. It has been empty for a long time as far as I know and it looks like it is about to fall apart any minute because of its condition. Itâs the morning of and Iâm counting down the hours until my friends and I descend into the abyss of the unknown. All throughout the day I look out the window, and I can see the house â and movement from inside. Or what I deem as movement, but I know itâs my overactive imagination kicking in and itâs probably nothing. The night has fallen over the city and me and my friends are in my house preparing ourselves for the time in my neighbours haunted house. We have prepared a sports bag with flashlights, water bottles, a bag of chips and chargers for our mobile phones. I have told myself the whole day that Iâm not scared of any ghosts and stuff like that, they donât even exist! It would be fun to scare my friends though, maybe I should make something up to scare the crap out of them? The time has come, and we are making our way to the so called haunted house. We spend our walk to the house talking about what we might encounter and what we expect to find. I reach out to the door of the house, letting my hand rest on the wooden dark door, and as I open the door it made a loud creaking sound that almost hurts my ears and all three of us proceeded to walk into the house. We turned on our flashlights as we walked inside and one of my friends froze on spot, calling for us, and in curiousity me and my other friend walked over, to realise we made a horrific discoveryâŠ
ï»żAs we walked through the half broken frame leading into the first room on our left, the terror struck me immediately. Daniel was behind me, still unaware of what he was to see because he had been scanning the place as he walked with me towards Ivory. Ivoryâs eyes met mine with fear and shock. Before any words could leave either mine or Ivoryâs mouth, they left Danielâs. âOh my gâŠâ Danielâs sentence trailed off as his eyes dilated to more than twice the original size. In the room we discovered a blood bath. The carpets were drenched in blood, staining all of our shoes, and when any of us tried to walk, we could hear our own feet sink into the floor. The walls and ceiling, they had been splattered with blood as well. It was like someone came into the house with victims and just sawed them all down with a chainsaw in this room. I felt chills up and down my spin, and I was in so much shock that I didnât notice the smell until it hit me. All this blood must have been fairly fresh, people were murdered not too long ago. I covered my nose with my hoodies sleeve, calling to my friends. âGuys, this is something...serious. We have to get out of here, and tell someone,â I said as my friends looked at me. Ivory was nodding in agreement whilst Daniel replied in a tone I wasnât expecting. âNo. We came here for a reason, and we are gonna fulfill that. We can tell someone later about what has happened. Letâs see the rest of the house, if anything it will help us explain ourselves better if we go to the cops.â I had an eerie feeling about all of this. My gut was telling me not to do this, but these were my friends, I couldnât let them down. I turned to Ivory, my face asking her if we should go. She just shrugged her shoulders, turning and following Daniel. I trailed behind them, scanning my flashlight across the area to see if I would spot anything new.
My body was shaking, but it wasnât from the cold anymore. Deep down I was scared, scared of everything. Scared of what was to come. I had been walking slow enough that my friends werenât in my sight, but I continued to search the area. I looked up and down the hallway I was in. The walls had blood smearing down across the planks of wood. It was as if someone was being dragged down the way, or pulled along and they had tried to stop themselves using their hands. I pointed my flashlight down immediatly, looking to see if there was a blood trail along the floor. I moved my light down the hall. Nothing was there at first, but the the blood began. It was about halfway into the hallway, and turned at a rapid turn on the corner. As the light from my flashlight got to that corner of where the frame of the doorway opened, I heard a ear-cringing scream. It was Ivory.
I ran. I ran towards where she screamed without thinking. If Ivory was in trouble, Daniel could be as well. I ran through the doorway into a room where parts of the ceiling had fallen through, and old furniture had begun to rot. I navigated carefully as fast as I could through the room into the room next to it. Ivory stood there with her face in her hands shaking. âIvory, whatâs wrong? Are you okay?â I came up to her, my voice shaking as I spoke. I didnât have to ask because my eyes saw the horror before her words could explain. There in the middle of the room, and scattered around were bodies and limbs. They had been dragged from the first room into here. The smell was unbearable. It was so strong, I started to become nauseous and lightheaded. I grabbed Ivoryâs arm, and tried to get her attention. âIvory, we have to go now. This isnât safe. We shouldnât have come here in the first place! Where is Daniel?â She looked at me with fear in her eyes as she spoke, âI donât know where he is. He just...disappeared. We walked into this room, and as soon as I saw...that. I screamed and tried to hide into myself. Iâm sorry..â I knew we had to leave now, whether it was with or without Daniel. He could have been dead, even though I didnât want to think about that, but we couldnât risk our lives at this moment. We had to get help.
ï»żI grabbed Ivoryâs hand, and we started to leave the house. She followed me silently, but I could feel the pulse in her hand racing. We had been walking for not too long when I hear a sharp slicing sound in the air, and I heard something drop to the ground. I began to pick up my pace, but I felt something trickling onto my hand. Ivoryâs body falling into mine. Confused, I moved the light onto her. I screamed, louder than I had ever done so in my life. Ivoryâs head was laying there on the floor next to me, her decapitated body in my arms. I shoved the body off me, shining the flashlight up towards the open area. There stood Daniel, a smile so evil stretched across his face, his eyes shining with pure mutilation. âBoth of you are such fools. It got her killed first,â he said laughing. I couldnât breathe, or move. I was stuck on the spot, shocked and my mind was racing. How could he have done this? How did we not know? I again felt lightheaded, just as if I was about to pass out. No, I couldnât. So I only did what I thought I could do at this moment; I ran. I ran towards the front door to get away from him. It had been him all along! Thatâs why he wasnât scared of leaving in the beginning, and wanted to keep going. My mind raced as so did my entire body. The body I saw passing by in the window earlier in the day had really been someone, and not just someone. Daniel. I kept running as fast as I could. Before I made it to the door, my feet slipped against the drenched, bloody carpet, and I landed face first. Blood covered my entire body, seeping into my clothes. I had no time to waste so without looking back, I got up quickly and ran to the door. I put my hand on the handle, and swung the door open, running out. I sprawled down the stairs, and my eyes closed for a second upon all the flashing lights. Everywhere cops had pulled up, getting out of their cars. âFreeze. Stay on the ground!â I heard them yell at me. Someone had called the cops, but who? I was too scared to move so I just stayed down. Cops ran into the house, and searched it. In the meantime, I was put into handcuffs. âSir, I didnât do anything wrong! My friends...theyâre in there. One of them tried to kill me and my friendâŠâ I was crying at this point as I tried to explain. The cop told me to hold on for a second so that they could finish examining the house. A cop came out, running towards the one I was with. âWe have a problem. Weâve got some dead bodies that we identified as a younger woman and man in the first room, and tons of bodies that we canât trace in the back room, sir. Murder for sure.â My eyes dilated. Daniel must have killed himself to put the blame on me, and make it seem like I had done this. And not only to help this, I was drenched in blood. My friends, they were dead. And so were innocent people. The cop that came over turned to me, eyeing me up and down. âThis isnât gonna look good in court kid. I hope you know what you've done is gonna cost you the rest of your life.â The prank that I thought I would pull on my friends, I had pulled on myself by just entering that house. A prank that would cost me my life. I got shoved into the car, and I looked at the house one last time before we pulled away. Someone was standing there at the window, smiling from ear to ear, looking at me right in my eyes...
