Darcie looked up into the sparkling night sky, smiling softly at the stars and making shapes with her imagination. She sat up on the damp grass, and looked around, down the hill. A man was shouting about it being the last ride of the night on the ferris wheel, her favourite ride. Jumping up, she ran the short distance down the hill and to the booth at the ferris wheel. "One please." she said, smiling. The man in charge of the ferris wheel frowned a little. "There are no empty carriages. This is the only one with a space." he gestured to a carriage at the bottom with a boy around her age inside. She looked up to the sky and turned back to the boy. She really didn't want to miss the view, it was too precious. "I don't mind." she handed over her token and walked towards the carriage, a little slower than her normal pace. Tentatively sitting next to the boy, she smiled gently. "I hope you don't mind.. I just really wanted to go on this." she shrugged softly, looking straight into his eyes before looking down at her lap  as the ferris wheel slowly began to rise. "Not at all. I was kind of hoping you'd say yes to coming in." the boy replied, with a cheeky little smile, causing Darcie to smile too. She giggled softly. "Well, I guess everyone's happy then, hey." she looked up and out of her window, taking in the beautiful countryside that surrounded her. "I'm Darcie." she spoke softly, her voice calming. "Taylor." he replied, still smiling. As the ferris wheel slowly reached the top, Darcie and Taylor had become engaged in conversation. Darcie stopped talking, and looked out of her window. "We're nearly at the top. This is my favourite part." she smiled. "Mine too." Taylor shuffled a little closer to her, leaning forward to look out of her window. The sight truly was beautiful, looking out across a wonderful lake, glistening in the light of the moon and the stars. "Empty lake, full sky." Taylor whispered, staring at the stars so bright.

As the ferris wheel reached the bottom, Darcie and Taylor climbed out. She sighed, sad that it had to end. She was never normally one for romance or boys, but Taylor made her feel different, comfortable. "So, er, thankyou." she murmured, unsure of what to say. Taylor laughed softly. "You're cute Darcie." he smiled. "Maybe I could get your number, you know, stay in touch?" he shrugged a little. Darcie's stomach filled with butterflies. "Yeah, of course." she grinned, reciting her number until he had it written in his phone. They said their goodbyes, and she ran off excitedly, her stomach and mind swirling. 

A Year Later.

Darcie stared out to the lake in front of her, leaning on the rails, her chin resting on her arms. She was smiling softly, watching the sun set over the water. As the glimmers caught her eye, she sighed, contentedly. The trees around her waved a little in the cool wind, as she closed her eyes, before her head started to spin. Her smile faded, soon to be replaced with a frown as she became lightheaded. She slowly lowered herself to the floor, with the help of the rails, until she was sitting down, and placed her head in her hands. Her eyes were closing, she kept blinking, her breathing deep, trying to gain composure. It was useless, and as she looked across the river one more time, she left consciousness. Everything was gone.

*It's hit the water now. There's a large splash, but no noise. I can't hear anything, as if the world has stopped. A gasp escapes my lips, I don't know why my eyes are filling with tears. I turn around, my back now to the wooden fence. Falling to the floor, I hold my knees. Suddenly I start to sob. I have to leave, to run. I stand up, holding the rails for support, unable to steady myself. I don't look back . I begin to run, stumbling and falling, my legs feel like jelly.*

Darcie's eyes slowly opened, a look of confusion on her face. She looked around at the bridge she was stood on, wondering why she was on the floor, and why she had a sudden eery feeling of her surroundings. She shook her head, looking at the floor. Before she could make sense of anything, she stood up, and checked her watch. "Shit." she mumbled, quietly. Four minutes until she had to be home, she'd have to run. Quickly putting one foot in front of the other, she began to make the short distance to her house, her head feeling slightly funny.
