I graduated. Thought it was a fun idea. I don't really know why. I didn't really do it for the purpose of finding myself or to explore different cultures. It just kinda happened for the sake of fun I think. Do something else from sitting at a bench all day and be stuck in my hometown. Maybe I did it because of that reason, that I didn't want to get stuck as I know that a lot of people do. So maybe I did it to explore different cultures and meet new people from all over the world after all. I mean I have met people from all over the world and it has affected me and I have changes a lot (!!!) since I left home because of that reason.
I see. You don't always need to have a reason for everything, it's nice to just do something for the sake of doing it I guess.
How are you finding it so far? How long are you going to continue to backpack? And what are some lessons you have learned from your travels? I think this is so interesting to hear about, and if you have time to write, and don't mind it, I would love to hear everything about your experiences!
It's... A get to know yourself experience. Because all the time you have to push yourself out of your comfort zone. Some examples it that:
I have skydived from 15.000ft (4.5km).
When I was staying in hostels I had to talk to new people every day.
I had to take phone calls if someone called me (it could be one of the jobs that I have applied for)
I had to go to travel agencies and take my own decisions and prioritize what I want to see and do
Take care of yourself, both food and accommodation. (where do I live tomorrow? How is the hostel that I booked some nights ago in a town 2h away with an airplane that I never been to before?)
And to speak English every day. That was so weird in the beginning.
I'm going home in June/July depending on when my farm work is done.
I came here with a friend and we did a bartender course in Sydney for one month. But he left me after two weeks of ”traveling”. He left on so bad terms. We are not friends today. So a Norwegian girl from the course texted me. So I ended up traveling with her and an Irish girl for two weeks. Then it was just me and the Norwegian girl for some more weeks until she went home and I began to work.
So instead of buying a car and doing this amazing road trip with my friend, I ended up partying for a whole month and eating out all the time. So I gained like 10kg and became broke af.
Basically my three months summed up really quickly.
Edit: also about challenging myself. I was soo scared of flying. Didn't really have a choice here though. But dear God its so much better than when I first flew to Australia! Even though it's a challenge sitting down on that airplane I can't even describe the differences in my whole body.
Oh wow, what an experience! And I'd bet the things you've learned, and will learn the next few months, are lessons you're gonna take with you for the rest of your life. I'm just so amazed by people who does this, cause I know that even if I wanted to I'd never be able to do it myself.
