yeah, exactly. and not just that. I mean the whole thing during the cold war where all the ussr countries had to vote for each other and all that.
yeah, exactly, that whoel Israel thing was just a bit much. Like, I appreciate people trying to speak up about it and all, but it's still ... idk, there's a time and place for these things and since it's literally just a singing contest for the members of the european broadcasting union, I feel like that should be the general tone of it as well.
plus, I mean not to be that kind of person, but no matter how things are going to proceed, Ukraine will be in quite a bit of issues financially speaking. having them win and then forcing them to host the ESC after there having been a war ... it could ruin the country. There's a reason a bunch of the smaller countries don't participate anymore and there's a reason some countries really fuck up their economics just for the ESC. I don't feel like it's worth it just for a singing competition on the telly. I know I sound really pessimistic, but there is soooooo much more going on about this than just "showing people how unified Europe is and let them have some time to enjoy their lifes" when it comes to the ESC and all the planning and financing that's behind it
it definetly has a time and a place yea! but they won't be forced to host if they win, im pretty sure i've read that there are systems in place to help out/find other hosts if the winner isn't able to host whether it be economics, unrest or being australia.
true, but there's a lot of prestige going on about beign the one allowed to hosting
like I know Luxembourg won two years in a row and the second time someone else hosted because Luxembourg couldn't or wasn't allowed to host twice in a row. but still being the hosting country is really sought after because of the implications it has for esc tourism and just tourism in general. there are ways to help them out if they can't host, but I feel like it really would take a country a lot to say on their own, that they don't want to host despite being the winning country
