Guide to Design Competitions

After the Valentine's Day event, I noticed a lot of people were having some issues with the competition, and as a result unfortunately did not get the prize. I did a quick look-over and tried to see what some people might need help with, so hopefully this helps!

Tip 1: Don't steal designs!

This should be a given, but unfortunately it has to be said. Some things that might count as stealing include:

-Copy/pasting an entire item outright
-Modifying/recoloring an item that already exists that you didn't design
-Cropping the head off a skin that already exists that you didn't design

Tip 2: Keep the items properly sized!

You could have the best design in the world, but if it's too small (or too big!) for the item programmers to use, then it won't be able to be added to the game, and therefore won't count for the competition. The template for all skins (including posed female skins!) is here. As long as you don't resize the original base, the design should be good!

Tip 3: Read the 'Designing for VP' rules carefully!

The 'Designing for VP' thread covers everything you need to know, from what software to use to how to make the background transparent on your submission! There's even a 'Tutorial for Uploading' that shows how to seperate the items and where you should crop each item.

Tip 4: Study (NOT copy!) other popular designs!

This obviously doesn't mean copy them outright, but study how they may have shaded something, or how they may have blended the hair. If you really feel like you're stuck, you can even message the designers (do NOT message them over and over and annoy them though!) and ask them for advice.

Tip 5: Save as .png!

It's already been covered in the previously linked 'Designing for VP' thread, but I felt like it needed repeating because I saw a lot of .jpg files. If you save as anything other than .png, it'll have a background and some unsightly pixels surrounding it, meaning that the designers can't use the item ingame. If you save as .png, as long as you haven't drawn anything on the background, it should be transparent and therefore be able to be used ingame!
