Waves

Waves lapped up on the shore
Gently caressing the golden sand.
The tide sang its sweet melody
As it washed up onto the land.

Birds chirped in the morning breeze
Welcoming a new day.
The wind picked up its speed
While the waves frolicked and played.

Children's laughter filled the air
But he could find no joy.
For just last summer
The waves consumed his only boy.

He stood upon the beach
Reminiscing the time
When his heart would swell with happiness.
How he wished he could stay that way for a lifetime.

Waves crashed up onto the shore
As the sun drifted down the sea.
Families started to leave
But he remained there faithfully.

Slowly but surely
He stepped forward
The waves reached out to him
And he responded

"I'm coming son
Just a little longer."
The sky turned dim 
As he stepped closer.

That summer a year later
After the loss of his precious child
The man finally found him again
In the depths of the summer waves.
