we ate together n had rules about staying at the table until everyone was done, we also werent allowed to eat in our rooms for the most part, at least meals, but it was like a very loose rule cos my mom wasnt crazy luckily

but we stopped when the family fell apart and things were so unpleasant that it made everyone miserable šŸ‘

sometimes, maybe more often when i and my brother were younger, but nowadays we all eat in different parts of the house. my brother in the living room, my mom and dad in their room, my partner and i in the kitchen. before my partner moved in, i used to eat in my room and my family all generally ate in the living room and watched tv together.Ā

but i do think eating together as a household is v important as a family / household, given that all family members are normal people, i missed it quite a lot once i got home from england and realized the fam still didnt eat together even though the offending party *cough* father *cough* wasnt part of the household anymore.Ā

whenever i set the table my gpdaunt tells me i put the fork and knife wrong and reminds me of like fancy table rules and i always rely that i will never learn it because i do not care abt fancy dinner rules
shes 76 so she has a different mindset abt a lot of things, but she actually doesnt mind that i dont care abt the rules, she just keeps mentioning it to tease meĀ

the latter! my mom always had 2-3 jobs and it was kind of hard to know when she'd be at home. the closest to a family dinner i got growing up was a mcdonald's drive-through. idk i feel like my mom never learned to cook rly either so idk if she could have even made us proper dinnersĀ
