that's true. A lot of the very traditional ones are like that which I don't fully understand since they are "so" focused on "loving one another"
Although apparently they are trying to shift to more "you get to choose" rather than "follow this exactly" which I think is a big step for them, especially since one of their other big values is having agency.

really??? that's crazy, none of the Mormons I know are like that

Maybe that's just Provo though. I had a friend at BYU Idaho and its much more laid back

actually, they believe no one on earth goes to outer darkness, 1/3 of the people in heaven chose to go to outer darkness rather than go to earth. Everyone on earth will go to one of the 3 kingdoms, celestial, terrestrial, and telesitial. Of which when there's the whole judgement thing, you basically get to choose where you go

And they do believe that you get to be gods and goddesses, they are very strong about men and women being equal. (Obviously in the past when all of the world thought men over women this was blurred)

I've never heard about a staircase thing that sounds crazy
and no, men and women can wear whatever they want, they just ask that they dress modestly to protect themselves basically. Originally it was very clear to not show shoulders etc , but this has changed to where individual decides what is modest for them, not a list of guidelines anymore.

women are not equal at all, as evidenced by the fact that no woman can hold priesthood, no woman can hold any upper role in a church (unless its like a role leading other women, like being in charge of a womens group) and the fact that we have god and his spirit wife that does nothing but birth babies (our souls) all day. and thats what they believe women get to do in their own kingdoms afterwards for all of eternity (with their possible sister-wifes ofcourse)

the serious governing? thats for men obviously, we wouldnt want a silly woman in there!!and its not like in politics where its just "theres still less women tha men" kind of deal, women are straight up excluded from a lot of the positions, becaue they cannot hold priesthood (but all men hold priesthood becaue they are men and its thei godgiven right so they can bless other ppl like their own babies, but women cannot do that and will never be able to)
