i feel like the difference is that for autistic people it's often like it has to be consciously done at all times and at some point you reach the maximum of doing that like it's too much and then it gets bad, while others seemingly misinterpret things on purpose just to be cunts or read the absolute worst meaning into something because they are gremlins. of course confusion can occur at all times, i just think it's how you approach it that matters really.
it is extremely exhausting yes (for me atleast, all im talking about now is my personal experience, not talking on behalf of other autistic people) and that is the reason why im almost never social, i dont go outside because its just not worth it often

yes, i can see how its easy to "boil over" when it comes to miscommunication. i've had people blow up in my face for this reason, and ive gotten hurtful comments that slips out when people get frustrated
and it makes me just not want to talk. cause i dont do it on purpose, and i think some people forgets that
ironically im better at online communication than irl because i dont see anyones faces and can just read out right what people are saying
i also used to go to an autism group, and it was really sad to hear that a lot of the other members in the group didnt dare to ask people to clarify because of situations in the past where people get angry
in online communication you don't need to actively read into when it is "your turn" to talk, and when someone is done talking, when someone wants a reaction, what reaction they want, interpret if it is a question or a statement because that's often clear in written speech regardless of the presence of "?", so a lot of those aspects are removed so you can focus more on content rather than those extreme fine details that are hard to consciously learn.
i'm upset to hear that, i hope things become more understanding as knowledge of this become more widespread, psychology is still, compared to medicine for instance, in its infancy so there's still a lot we don't know and stigma from the past is difficult to do something about, someone has to be trailblazers and show how much variation is present in people on the autism spectrum, because it's never fully identical and people have acquired different skills and techniques to "take part in society", so it's always going to be different.
exactly, thats why i feel much more comfortable talking online. i can take my time and process the message, which is great. removes a lot of the unwritten rules of socialization
