It would at least be better for my brain to not have to go thru with failing even though I tried again, if it’s by default it feels less bad

it depends on what your ultimate goal is, but generally it's not ideal to have low grades. Let's say you want to take a master's, generally you need an average of minimum C, although somtimes they alow it to be 2.5 while 3.0 is a clean C, often, you need a B minimum so 4.0 or >3.5. If you have grades below C, that's an issue

No but my last boss was super nice and pleasant we talked about knitting and hung out at lunch, no snap chats she was too old for that but she is still your boss, you can be friendly and have a good relationship with your boss but asking what you’re doing when you can’t come into work is overstepping a boundary she should not do in a position of power, it’s info you can volonteer urself if you feel friendly with her and want to but otherwise big no of her
