um well

a couple of years ago they have made it mandatory for gymnasium aka 10-12 grades subjects to be mostly in estonian (they still dont do that lol all explanations in russian because you cant just switch bro people dont know the language duh) but overall teachers talk in russian all assignments are in russian all tests are in russian

there are 3 state (?) exams: estonian, math and english + different schools can pick different additional exam
like my school had this mix exam and you needed to pick 2 subjects out of 3 offered that was based on whether you were in math class (chemistry, physics and geography) or humanitarian class (russian, history, social studies (???)) but another russian girl in uni just had pick whatever subject and write exam type of situation
anyways that is in estonian

for estonian exam there are 2 options: estonian language exam and estonian language as a second language for us russian losers and they are just different types of exam like we had grammar listening reading all that stuff and other exam was like reading text and analyzing and something else idk i didnt research that much i assume it was like what russian exam looked like
math could be either in russian or estonian, you just had to pick that when registering for exam
english is english obv i also didnt take it so cant say much about what happened there but thats just typical english exam

but yes pretty much the entire time youre studying in russian and speaking russian besides some specific subjects like history or physics where the tests are in estonian even though teachers do explain in russian
that sounds so complicated but also simplified and my brain feels like it does it not know if I'd appreciate it or feel dread dealing with that system
I am glad to be done with uni
i wish i was done with uni.....but ive only started......

also this doesnt feel complicated when you live here dfdgdg but it does make it harder for you to study after because youre suddenly in a situation where you can only study in estonian (well some programs are in english and you could possibly study in russian for a lot of money in private schools) but youve only spoken russian for 12 years
