i also don't see a future for the site if it does launch, so i don't see a point in investing or supporting it. the company is financially crippled (don't forget it was ran to the ground already once even with an active userbase) and i think the hype will die down in couple of months

That might be, but once you get your acc and the password, you get to change password and email. They are a legit comapny with no motivations to scam people that way? It's literally the most ineffective way for them to take advantage of this situation.
