that is very true, driving lessons are extremely expensive, unfortunately.
I sometimes forget how lucky I actually am because my parents are able to help me economically with whatever it must be, so I'm sorry. But for me, getting a drivers licence wasn't even a question as both my parents got it when they were 18 and the public transport in my area is close to nonexistent
I don't think it's anything to apologise, from my experience a lot of Norwegians forget that there are something else than middle class and upper class. I went to school with kids that had parents earning several millions (legit) every year and they would go on vacations all the time while I sat like : ) hello.
I can come off as extremely aggressive regarding these things but I am aware of it, in case I suddenly seem very.. sharp? The majority of the people I frequent with comes from very different realities than me so I sometimes feel the need to tell them that things aren't as obvious as they think. One thing I like to bring up, obviously because I am a dick, is that I've had to pay my own bills since I was 16 despite not having money, I've paid for my healthcare related expenses 90% of the time. I'm a student living pretty much only on a student loan and my mother has the nerve to loan money from me. I am lucky with my grandparents tho, they've probably saved my ass way too many times this year. But the reality in Norway is that not everyone has parents who can help, there are people in Norway who aren't as fortunate as the others, I have a friend who was raised below fattigdomsgrensa so I know people are worse off than me, but I know that a lot of people aren't.
It's good that you speak up about it, cause I guess many norwegians (including myself, I'm gonna admit that) aren't really that aware of this and need a reality check now and then. I can't sit here and say that I understand your situation, cause in all reality I don't.
I think it's important to tell people because I am not ashamed of my background and am willing to use it in order to let people get a more real view of how Norway actually is.

And I totally agree, it's important for everyone to know that there are such huge differences, even in Norway. Like I have far from been exposed to the reality enough during my upbringing

I don't think a lot of people have, my professors in uni have the nerve to say there is no such thing as working class in Norway and that's surprisingly ignorant for me. My mother lives on paycheck to paycheck, she frequently have to borrow money because she doesn't get the ends to meet. The reason of her economic struggle is that she is renting, so is my father. Renting is extremely expensive, and not worth it at all. But if you don't have money to save up to the egenandel, you won't get a loan anyway so it's forever pretty much.

I'm by no means struggling economically, which I'm grateful for, and I have friends who's both better and worse off than me. However, I grew up attending primary school with students who had parents with VERY stable economies. To this day, one of them still won't spare me a glance if I see her on the streets.
It's sad that the majority of the Norwegian population aren't aware of the fact that there are people struggling financially and living from paycheck to paycheck (as snus said). This is especially true for children.

There was (maybe still is) an ad on tv for festive national outfits (festdrakter from OBS I think), where the mother is telling her children to lie about them being true national outfits (bunads). This ad have had me in RAGE since it first aired.
No child should EVER have to lie about the economic choices their parents have to make, because it should be common knowledge that not everyone can afford bunads and parajumpers. Children should be taught that this is OK, and should be respected.
Growing up with people who'd shit on others for having last year's edition of a parajumper (for 7k NOK I dare point out), because their own parents would buy them a new one every year, was a struggle for many of my classmates with parents of lower income. My mother even knew other parents who had to sow the tag of expensive brands onto H&M t-shirts in order to prevent their kids from being bullied at school.

Yeah, or more that there are no differences between the working class and the middle class, which is beyond ignorant actually.
It's the reality I've grown up with, it's not necessarily something I would recommend but for me that's just how things are. What's more hopeless is that the more fortunate people only know each other so it's hard to get jobs because you don't necessarily have the connections for it either so haha yeah I'm permanently fucked pretty much.

That ad, I think it's because people raise their children thinking nothing but the most expensive is okay so the mother wants their children to be able to talk back if someone says something. I'm not sure tho.
