I learned abt this.. ok good it's getting used for something. But i still feel strongly abt the lack of recycle we do with these types of glass. Almost all can be sorted out and at the end become recycled glass to make more drinking glasses. But humans are too lazy to deal with that so glass wool is just the green washed easy way out imo

Dad read from some glass plate/ window company that 70% CAN be recycled to make new plates but today only 2% actually is... it is scamful

And what is worse is that putting a drinking glass in the normal glass recycle box COuld ruin the process but not a single station clarify that you arent supposed to throw it in there. So we are shooting ourselves in the foot even more... parents had no idea we had been throwing it wrong all this time..

Ive finally calmed down, deadass hav not been able to breathe normally for the past hour

All this just because I wanted to become more environmentally conscious of what i buy when i move . I wanted to buy cute glass spice jars and only buy refill bags/ lösvikt... and i just had the random thought "we still like glass right?"
Answer is no I do not 😭😭 all glass things i buy now must be either secondhand or it has to say on the lable that it can be recycled as "normal"

We still like aluminium and steel fyi if you were wondering 😭 they could be contaminated too but not in the same way we actively ruin glass

The thing about recycling is that buying used is always the best option, the resin one can argue glass bought new is still better than ex plastic is cos it can be reused longer, but most of the time you can still just reuse old glass containers for the same purpose, so like when I’ve bought like idk jam in a glass jar I just keep that jar and use for storing jam I buy from those sausage jam things instead of getting  new jar of jam

what if you buy glass and then give it to the second hand store so they can resell it

Ultimately it’s not ur fault it’s the big corpos and capitalism etc, it’s good to care and do your best but knowing that it’s not like all on my shoulders has helped me a bit in not freaking out about it
