I did that once too! I tried making the historic evolution challenge, though solemnly through building. So each neighborhood would be a different era or time.

Hmmm not sure if there is for Ts4, there definitely were for ts3. I believe the creator also makes for Ts4 though so they might've made a recreation. I can look for it if you want?

My sim went to university, met someone and married him, got a son, her husband cheated on her and got the girl pregnant, and my sim found a new boyfriend  The son is going to be great at e-sport lol
I usually play the same way, and even though it isn't a very intricate story, it's still better than most of my other games! 
I'm not great at building, so I usually stick to gameplay. Without mods I would probably learn to build more, as the gameplay without mods is severely lacking depth
