I wouldn't say so. It's kinda historical, but the main character for each season does have some kind of personality and it plays off different tropes. It's good for the female gaze, but I wouldn't say it's unnecessarily lovey-dovey compared to the drama happening

I would recommend the TV series over the books for a myriad of reasons.
I found the first season problematic due to the r*pe happening in the last few episodes (it's not played off as r*pe). I enjoyed season 2, and the part of the spinoff I have watched was a really strong story. idk with new season yet.
hmm, might give it a try as a background kinda show. i've seen so much about nicola coughlan bc of the new season and she seems like an absolute gem 🥺
