I haven't checked the payment pages out but usually payments are handled by a third-party anyways.
But I mentioned before banks are ready for this kind of thing, they are insured, and when your finances are compromised they usually reimburse you.

security is expensive and hiring people who know what they're doing is expensive. many people in IT do not want to practice basic security functionality. however, it is more expensive to recover from a breach.
us cybersecurity professionals have to be right ALL the time, and it is continuous. but an attacker only needs to be right once
many small companies and sites do not have necessary funding for security. but SSL is not expensive or difficult to implement. it is secure coding 101

makes me glad they turned me down as a mod lol (which like, kinda hurt my feelings considering how much I've done for the site in the past but now that it's launched - thank fuck they didn't want me back)
