I kinda get that too though! I met my first catholic priest when I was 15 and he was such a terrible person through and through that I just knew I wouldn't touch religion with a ten foot pole if that had been my experience growing up.

I also think protestant (state) churches have evolved a lot due to the lack of religious people in society. They need to renew themselves if they want to continue earning tax money.
yeaaah thankfully my first experience was my grandpa's church, he was not alive really when I was exposed to it but he did so much for that community and the ones that followed in his footsteps that I saw how much good it could do

I feel like Protestant churches are less harsh? than Catholic and Orthodox, but I might be totally wrong
Oh!!!! that's nice though! I think it's important to focus on the good these institutions could do, even though it feels easier to just remove all religion because it's messy.

I do agree with the protestant, catholic and orthodox take though. It's different flavours of the same book.
It is, religion can be amazing but it can be hell, I chose to forget it and ignore it cus well, yes

it is, isn't it? I used to be more immersed into religion as a topic, but as a religious person, but now? nooope

Understandable though! It has some toxic flavour a lot of places atm for some reason.

Religion is interesting! And I some way I'm jealous of religious people, because it must be amazing to be able to look to something for guidance and community in the way it's been established. Even if that is kinda toxic.

All of YA feels kinda same-ish so I get you on that.  I do also feel like this book might be a little silly.

If you're looking for YA without too much YA, I've read a few:
Hell Followed with Us by Andrew Joseph White (very religious dystopia, trans main character, very gory)
Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao (sci-fi, mecha, very female rage, but a very interesting twist to what you've described above)
This Savage Song by V.E. Schwab (fantasy, kinda music-based, interesting concept of violence breeding monsters that kill humans)
I think I might be a bit against it because it was a task in a bookclub given by a specific person that I can only describe as a creepy incel, his task was very tailored towards me and I cannot imagine why he'd give me such a book when it's a known fact I am not into those books..

I WILL keep those written on my notebook as I would want more books to read, exciting
what the fuck... ??? that's creepy.

They're all YA! But I do think they're enjoyable even if you're older because they don't feel too generic and probably are balancing between the label and not
yep
the other task (as our tasks are not only book-related, but more so experience-related) was to cook a dish but he changed it to that book because
"oh wait you KNOW how to cook though so you will get another task"
"what are you basing it on? you know nothing of my cooking skills"
"uhhh, you're a woman? hello?"
this close to getting out of that

seems promising in that case, will try to read em in the near future

sad(( what the fuck. Book clubs should be good and open, but I guess that's utopian... Why aren't there more women... women like reading

I hope you think so! If you've had bad religious experiences some of it might be relatable to some degree.
