exposure. sponsors can get their shit advertised, for private people i'm more unsure what the motives are. for countries it's like national pride and supporting their athletes, france is among the countries that appears to be very fond of sponsoring young, promising talents
their ads can appear on people's clothes, on the cars, on the helmets etc
