I feel like it's been a long time since I've seen you pieces because I always saw realistic dogs, but I guess those were commissions? 
Yeah, most of them were. I just... I still love realism, but I could never put my own touch on it, and it just ended up becoming boring? It was mostly just "follow this ref, no background", so it became routine and not really.. challenging. 

I've actually kind of forgotten how to learn after doing so many of them.

That's a good question, lol. For me it just entails that in the past I focused more on what I could do to improve, while now... Yeah, I might do a study, sketch some things for practice or something like that, but I don't know how to focus it more like I used to? 

I feel very much like I fumble in the dark now with it, rather than feeling like I was really working at it like I did in the past.
