I use is for these I think, but its usually these that I get stuck on also and pick are even tho I think it sounds wrong

the worst part is that some mass nouns can be both 
like it is grammatically acceptable to use plural about countries (which i generally do), although the more common thing is singular, but in my brain it doesn't make sense that mass nouns are singular
