tbh idc ab the plot being not the best it was a nice movie good music and i like the low framerate effect choice + general style of animation. also the full asian cast, actually asian looking characters, cultural references etc

my fiancee's first reaction to the last 15 minutes were like "why is this movie 3fps" and "why do they look like meta avatars" and i get it

also i agree with weedee with multiple plot issues but i feel like this plot is very common? if that makes any sense

also i get it that objectively this could have been bad if the references didnt make sense or the humor would have been different, but because its bad like it is, it turns back and becomes camp (just in my personal opinion)
the plot is so common that its shocking how they failed to develop it
Yeah i do see that also a lot on manhwas ive read that they care more about the ~vibe~ than the actual meat of the matter

spoiler
i do like the relationships tho, and i would have loved to see more character development and inner monologue

when rumi comes back to the stadium, when the song starts, her one eye stops glowing, so her "demon" has less control over her, so she reverts back to "killing" demons like she has always done, to be fair i think they are not killing demons in a literal sense, i feel like if this was more catored towards an older audience, they would have cleared up more that they are freeing them from their eternal suffering? which really isn't killing imo bc they are eternal beings doomed to suffer

i deeply dislike this movie, the songs are fine, its giving kpop from 2017. the animation is okay? weird "lagging" style while songs are playing but whatever....

the plot is just. bad. the first 20 minutes are pretty interesting and bring out an interesting idea then it just goes downhill, rumi goes from having one belief that she dedicates her life to to changing it overnight because of one guy she met once then changes her mind again at the last moment when the plot rly needs her to be the hero, its not interesting even for a kids movie. or how she only gets her voice back after that duet but jinu had his this entire time even tho his patterns are worse so how does it work exactly? this couldve actually been interesting if they talked about it like. at all. this whole movie feels like they gave a prompt to ai and said finish

the characters personalities are either plastic or nonexistent. there are 2 groups with 8 people total and yet we only kinda know 2 of them (and i hate rumi <3), do the boys even get more than 2 lines? but whatever jinu was like the head of this operation they can be sidekicks without personality sure okay but what about the other girls? whats the point of them being there if we dont get to know them? and its not like theyre that important at the end rumi is the one who brings them back and kills the big guy

i saw ppl online mention it needing a sequel or how it shouldve been a show but i dont think that it wouldve saved the plot. its 1h 40 minutes we have movies with proper plot and characters with that runtime...

mby its just me being overly negative and critical but i dont think that this "plot" can or should be excused with it being a kids movies. those are the movies that children will grow up with and i sincerely doubt that anyone would feel any nostalgia about it like we do with disney movies and stuff
From what ive read, the creator had stated in some kind of interview that the reason why some plot points werent solved was incase they get an opportunity to do a sequel. Not an excuse but explains why some story beats were bit questionable

In the end, the creator wanted to make a movie that was a love letter to kpop and korean culture (Which she is part of) and i think thats also a factor on why the story is the weakest part of the movie

(Not arguing against you, i very much agree on majority of the stuff you pointed out)
to clarify i dont really find them not explaining how patterns work THAT important in that movie, its kinda smth that girls wouldnt know so it makes sense to not get too deep into that (something that they surely couldve left for a sequel if they get one). the majority of problems stems from characters having no personality or morals (like rumi changing her mind constantly, jumping back and forth between killing demons and thinking they deserve to live, screaming at celine about her not loving her demon side and then killing demons immediately, which just ruins the whole movie)

i think that movies deserve sequels when they actually have something new to say, when you make the plot so shallow hoping that you will get one before the first movie is even out you dont actually care about creating something new and fun
spoilers and maybe baseless personal headcanons
I think the patterns basically work like the same way their shame works, so if Rumi had been able to tell about her patterns, the whole plot wouldnt make sense, and her patterns are not as visible in the end only because she left those feelings behind. So imo Celine was wrong from the beginning, which is understadable, they could have not been able to make her patterns dissappear without the truth coming to light.

the movie baits that the golden hanmoon would be a "forever" fix (imo its not) because the girls need a concrete common goal, the references to the hunters keeping a balance of sorts in the beginning already kind of show that the hanmoon is in a fluid state. I think/hope that for a younger audience, the sequel would show more of that "in order for there to be good, there needs to be evil" message, that was left in the shadows for now.

+ i feel like rumi's internal conflict is shown pretty okay? like being scared of feelings and acting impulsively and irrationally because of those feelings

i genuinely like the commentary the movie made, and the stuff ive seen talked about online relating to that

idk when i have seen so many reasonable and empathetic takes about kpop idols being... what?! human beings??!!
