The devil of nanking by mo hayder, that book made me buy all her books lol

Paradise logic by sophie kemp

Butcher by joyce carol oates

All the ugly and wonderful things by bryn greenwood

Mary toft, or the rabbit queen by dexter palmer (version control is also good)

This list is random kind of but I tried looking through my goodreads

Daughter of the moon goddess
Heart of a sun warrior

A duology based in Chinese mythology. About a girl forced to flee her home (ACOTAR book 1 adjacent start) except she becomes a maid servant and not any sort of royalty. To regain her family's honor she goes through many trials, including proving a long believed legend to be false. There is little to no romance since it is a very Mulan kind of story 9/10

Im enjoying queer horror rn, currently reading grey dog by Elliot Gish, is pretty good. Rly enjoyed chuck tingles horror novels also, don’t be fooled by it being chuck tingle they were actually serious books (not that pounded in the butt by my own butt isn’t serious)

best books i've read this year are the bear and the nightingale and the priory of the orange tree
i think the bear and the nightingale was the best book i've read ever, i loved it! the themes were sooo good for me, exactly my niche, and set in russia which was very cool to explore as someone who didn't know anything about russian folklore (also i read it in winter when it was snowing, so i could really get into it hhh)
i swear im gonan pick up priory one of these days again uuugh it was getting exciting when i stopped i shouldnt have put it away now its so had to get myself to start again

another book i just thought of
the clockwork angel series by cassandra clare
i dont care for the rest of her shadowhunter stuff and you dont need to know anything abt the universe for the books because they are set way  before all the other books of cassandra clare (in like 1800 something in london) and what u do need to know gets explained in the books. i just really really love the female lead shes so awesome lol and i like the 1800ths setting its fun

a similiar book because its also set in 1800 london is  is half a soul by olivia atwater
ive read it a few times lol
this is from the blurp
It's difficult to find a husband in Regency England when you're a young lady with only half a soul.

Ever since she was cursed by a faerie, Theodora Ettings has had no sense of fear or embarrassment - a condition which makes her prone to accidental scandal. Dora hopes to be a quiet, sensible wallflower during the London Season - but when the strange, handsome and utterly uncouth Lord Sorcier discovers her condition, she is instead drawn into dangerous and peculiar faerie affairs.

its fun because her aunt and everyone else is always so concerned by  whats proper for a ladx and how to find a good match and go to balls and she just wants to solve a mystery and doesnt give a fuck because of her affliction and its quite fun at times how they appease the aunt

also the book felt like it didnt intend to but showed a goodd representation of autism hahaha
I miss will and jem

i never even finished the books bc i was trying to read that series and the normal shadowhunters ones in the right order but i couldnt get through the shadowhunters ones

I read the book a good few years ago and it was SO emotional and engaging,  but the pedophilia kinda took me out

True, but what I do like abt the age gap (not the age gap but the choices the author made abt it) is that the dude isn't just another nasty humbert humbert type dude, and also the fact the book is very emotional, while also being practically free of any judgement of the subject matters, like its just "this is what happened, think abt it what u will" instead of trying to force the reader feel a sort of way
