Ughh so our teacher changed this year and I had first lesson today with her and im sooo pissed off. She was at first very nice and helpful not like the last teacher but I think rn I prefer my old teacher bc we would draw how anyone can and there wasn't so much homework when we have really important exam this year and stay for 9 hours everyday in school, probably the hardest year. Homework is actually ok but what she wants from us is impossible. She wants everyone to hold a pencil in 1 way, so we have to learn drawing from 0.
This is how we hold it:

this is how she says it must be hold and everything other is wrong and we are all holding pencils wrong:

ok please tell me if anyone has been corrected 23198732189 times in 2 hours during lessons bc I really don't understand why she is so obsessed about holding pencils like wth girl, why don't u let us hold pencils as we were taught before and drew for so many years??

it is so useful to learn to draw in that position

its better for your hands and allows you to use full rotation of your shoulder and your arms properly .  you can also see your drawing better

I've been corrected about that too. But mostly when I was 6-10 years old....

The thing I never understood was that they said I would get pain in my hands when I held it "wrong" but I only got pain in my hands when I held it "right" XD

I still draw and write "wrong".

If I paint I do it "right" tho.

because you were using muscles that you didnt use before, it takes practice

in that position i draw worse than I draw using my left hand. And I can't do anything using my left hand.

because youre not used to it ,  it takes practice

it just sounds like you dont want to practice something that is difficult but rewarding in the long run.

if you hate it that much, tell the teacher your feelings

I don't see it rewarding when I already can draw realistic without it. It's just struggling for another years trying to achieve what i already achieved + you can't tell her about it because it's an old teacher who thinks she knows the best (asked other students about her) and when i get nervous I cry so not even trying to talk to her lol

overhand grip is super useful .

with tripod grip you only use the point of the pencil, constantly dulling it.    with overhand you use the side and can also use the point, you can vary the line width immediately,  very the pressure greatly, create much more flowing lines... and using the side constantly keeps the point at least minimally sharpened so you almost never need to sharpen your pencil  .

tripod is only really useful for tiny details, when you use your finger strength.
the rest of your drawing should be done in overhand because you use your wrist / elbow / shoulder joints and it wont tire out your fingers (unless youre gripping way too tight)
