Yes exactly like i started watching it when i was like 15 or 16 and i had never seen a show that represented my surroundings the way shameless does like it didnt make a big deal out of the fucked up elements and it just showed what its like to live similarly to me and the ppl around me very.. shamelessly (lol) and honestly without making it preachy like “oh see how terrible this is look how much they struggle feel sorry for this socioeconomic class of ppl” or making it into a complete mockery like “haha look how trashy these type of communities are haha look how crazy and below us they are” like no they portrayed it very accurately and multidimensional like these characters feel very real to me 

like i was a mandy, i knew tons of girls like mandy, i knew tons of girls like fiona, i went to school with a bunch of carls, i knew franks and i knew tons of guys like mickey etc etc like every minor character made me go “oh yeah i know ppl exactly like that” and a ton of the situations and happenings made me go “omg thats just like when we did xyz” or “that reminds me of that time when..” like its honestly beautiful to me and i hold it very close and dear to my heart

that's such a nice thing. i really agree about the fact that they portray it without any.. value really? like,  looking down upon the characters, neither in a pityful or a degrading way. it's greatly done and makes it stand out so much
