TW: eating disorder - Sorry I'm back so soon

Tw: discussion of ED and stuff

My sister is afraid to eat anything. Two Christmases ago she had some kind of reaction to her fudge with walnuts in it that she made. It triggered a bad OCD episode where she was afraid of eating ANYTHING but plain foods like bread and stuff.
She started getting better eventually where she was eating new things (by new things I mean things she had tried before but hadn't since the episode began) but now it's worse.
She hadn't eaten for two days until yesterday I saw her something from taco Bell. I think it's one of her few restaurants she isn't afraid of eating. But I don't know if she's had anything since. There are no specialized therapists who handle EDs around (at least not that take her insurance) and I'm afraid of her starving herself to death. I don't want my sister to go through this anymore, is there much I can do?
Have you or anyone else you know gone through this before? 😔

I hope no one ignores this because of me, I promise my sister isn't as bad as me, she's actually a great person and she doesn't deserve to suffer like this!!

I have, she is pretty open about it. I've tried all the logical arguments and nothing helps "we eat and we're not dead" "you can't possibly be allergic to everything" "it's only such and such food" etc and so on.

ive had an ed in the past but i still feel unsure how id advice someone else or how i would have preferred people to deal with it

not sure what you can do for her but make sure she gets her electrolytes in and is aware of harm-reduction

could she go to some 24/7 treatment?

i don't really know what to do for the psychological aspect (prayers and best wishes for her ) but, like has been said, would she eat/drink nutritional suppliments?

Like protein shakes (**Boost has high calorie/nutrient dense options and more options including higher density/caloric ones on amazon not available in normal stores), electrolytes (Pedialyte kinda things can be good and sensitive enough we gave them to a sick pet before, prolly in baby section of walmart or smth), multivitamins, maybe some kinda fruit/veggie powder (you could add to a shake or on top of whatever she will eat), vitamin/mineral liquid drops (you can add to water/drinks).

obviously she needs real professional help but at least maybe one of these things will help her stay healthy until she gets that? would it worth looking around in your network of therapists for one who doesn't specialize in ED but would at least be able to maybe help or have better advice?

(also i thought ed stood for smth else at the beginning of that post i am ashamed of myself)
(also also, idk if this is right place but u made a post before ... about adding friends, i don't really talk but i'd be happy to add you on here)

**these are the ones we got for my gma when she had throat cancer and couldn't really eat for a while, lmk if i can help you find examples of any of these other things, prolly most are google-able though

She is afraid to even try the boost drinks unfortunately 😞
And she has a therapist, I don't go with her to the appointments so I don't know if she talks about the eating disorder stuff to her, I hope she does.
Thank you for the kind words!

im not sure if this may be ARFID or cibophobia, or something else, but if therapy isn't enough, I think at some point she will need to go to the hospital, because her body will surely start to become really weak from lack of nutrients + food in general ://

i've no experience with eating disorders but i have a ton of experience with OCD , obviously your sister is not the same person as me but what helps me is to learn the facts of the matter.

if im not misunderstanding this OCD episode started because of an allergic reaction to something in her walnut brownies maybe it could help her to go to an allergist and get tested on what she's allergic to? obviously only if she thinks its a good idea.

maybe you can ask her what it was that really scared her, but maybe use a different term since i would assume some people with OCD wouldnt want it to be qualified as simple fear but again it all depends on what your sister is like so use your own judgement here.

thats all i can really say, if she only eats taco bell i say let her but as i stated at the beginning i dont know anything about what having an ed is like so disregard if you feel that last piece of advice is not helpful.

i really hope i can help you help your sister, living with OCD is extremely hard and having someone who understands or at least tries to understand is extremely important to have.

is there a specific reason why she is afraid to try the boost drinks? because there are other brands that are more allergen friendly/organic/whole foods only or powders that you mix yourself if that feels more controllable to her.

but also someone mentioned allergy testing, that is a wonderful idea for her if understanding her allergens would help her. i've heard (might be less true now) getting allergy tested with a natural doctor is more thorough then the average mainstream medicine test (i'm in USA so idk if you're not if that's the same). I did a test with blood and stool test (both w/ natural dr, the mainstream one is skin i think and i've heard it's not as accurate). It would be pricer though w/ naturopath...

if it gets a lot worse though, i think you should (i don't know what the correct term is) force admit her to a psychiatric ward at a hospital. I think you can under grounds of threat to her life. i know it would be painful and intense but much better that she live long enough to figure this out. (but i am not a therapist and i don't know you, so take that with a grain of salt)

if possible, she could get allergy tests to see what she reacts to. also (if it is food related OCD) the only way to get better is exposure therapy. if it's something else idk T_T i only know how i deal with my own stuff, and also i can't diagnose anyone. it does really help having someone there for support when struggling with things like these though sorry to not be of much help!!
