the students are there to LEARN. not everyone has a strong stem bg and that's okay!! you don't have to practice math your whole life and be some genius to do a stem degree

idk it hits different now that i'm done with the first year and aware that it actually isn't okay to speak to new students like that

i did later in theatre and literature class also have teachers who were offended we didnt even know the concept of mujou(beauty of fleeting things because they will soon pass, e.g. cherry blossoms). like yeah?? because u never taught us?? how else would we know of it !!! always gave snide remarks that we should already know xy

i might have stayed that lecture but an assistant professor (from that same course) made me cry once and then i never attended the workgroup again. i asked him for help with some homework i had partially* done in advance and he just kept asking me with an increasingly loud voice what's the answer and i just kept saying idk mate that's why i'm asking for help. and then at some point i started to cry and while i left the room in tears he said something about some people just not being a fit for a university degree??????????

the same assistant professor also called me a special needs kid bc i have autism

wtf was that course!!!

super specific (imo) as well!! like how were you supposed to know

i swear some professors have totally forgotten what it was like to be a student and some are just cruel on purpose just bc they had cruel professors themselves

i think a part of it is that when they studied it was still a magister system, and not a 3 year bachelors degree ... so THEY had more time and more extensive courses abt everything, but we didnt??? like we are just hearing abt japanese literature for the first time. we know NOTHING. u are our first course ??? why would we already have prior knowledge abt common motievs in poetry

i later switched my mino to art history and had the most asshole teacher ever! very condescending, very bad at teaching. regularly made me cry in class. n then i dropped my studied alltogether ... but apart from that one asshole teacher in japanology at least the japanese teachers were all really kind and udnerstanding

well u dont really decide, ur parents do/your teachers recommend it
and its not 10 everywhere, where i lived (mecklenburg vorpommern) it was 12/13 (7th grade) not 5th grade
