we have two cats, maya (female cat, spayed, almost 2) and moos her half-brother (male cat, neutered, almost 2). they are siberian cats. moos is quite vocal, he loves meowing n whining, which is kind of fine. however he has fallen into the habit of meowing for half an hour as soon as we get into bed?? and we have no clue why. we cant sleep bc of it and my bf gives up like 5 mins in and locks both cats in the living room (which is v big and has all their stuff so its fine, but!) maya always sleeps w me in the morning and i miss her SOOO MUCH….
any advice?

kinda different, especially my bf often goes to bed later than me. when we’re both in bed the meowing starts

ultimately i think you need to figure out the reason he's meowing even if u dont know now, like double check things like, is litter box 100% clean before u go to bed, is he eating, does he want to play, etc since cats generally meow bc they want something n not just because. If you can't find any reason at all he might do it its never wrong to bring up next time u go to the vet like if u do a yearly check up or when u get vaccines n whatnot

if you think its stress related mayyybe feliway/pheromones could help, im just pulling this one out of my ass cos im not sure if theres actual evidence that it helps for meowing specifically but in theory if its stress related it could help

also i think sticking with the closed door/ ignoring him if it is just a general behavior issue can help too, and you might be able to have it open again once he has learnt that sleep time is sleep time not play time (especially if you close the door at a specific time). n also general behavioral training can be good to keep in mind, like dont reward his meowing at other times either! maybe doing some clicker training could help too so he gets a better understanding of do good = reward

he had a vet checkup a little while ago i think 2 months ago and we asked the vet but he said nothing was off and normal behavior

im actually thinking that maybe it is because we changes feeding,, we used to do wet-wet-dry and now we do wet-dry-wet. but they go crazy for their dry food so maybe thats why hes whining.. were gonna try feeding dry before bed again to see if that was it

omg breed thing maybe… we’re moving in a little while so if we’re really going to train w closing the bedroom door we’ll wait until we’re moved into a new place i think

food might be it yes... number one cause of cat complaints! also double check that hes getting enough calories with the new diet! usually cats need around/a lil less 200 kcal per day depending on their size since hes a siberian it might be less, but wet food is less kcal/g of food because it has more water, so it could be worth checking just to make sure he isnt meowing because hungy

moving as a whole might change his behavior up too honestly, cats are silly like that :3

i feel like they’re not eating enough?
its an expensive extra healthy brand too

its an expensive extra healthy brand too

yes this is smth i struggle with a lot with percy too (espec cos hes a so big) if i were to feed him only wet food he needs an insane amount and he doesnt like it as much so he just aint eating enough... u can calculate how much they need with Weightx30+70=calories, n check how many kcal/g the food is and then how many g/pouch to see if how much theyre leaving might be making a difference! if u just made the change it might take them a while to accept it too so u dont neccesarily need to upp the dry food right away!
i literally just got salmon oil today for this reason to put in percys food, so i cannot tewll u if it works for sure but thats also a calory bump if needed n u can mix in with wet food (some cat might also like it better if they like fish extra much)

trying a food topper could work too, just topping with a snack they like... my brother also used to put nuitritional yeast on his kittys food when he didnt want the food

sometimes i out liquid snack on but the. i get scared i overfeed lol even though we did calculate it a while back. but yea they’re not eating the calculated amount of food, but wouldnt they if they were hungies?

one time in the night he meowed at the stairs i think, he wants to go to our attic v badly but not allowed cuz hes a cable chewer and our washing machine is there… but we ignored him and after like 10 mins he stopped

Yahoo im glad to hear some progress on figuring it out! Lets hope it’s that n it’ll be easier to work on n you get maya cuddles again
