I remember Sword Art Online being super hyped. Never got around to watching the first one but I think that was a key to isekai anime becoming popular. I watched he second season with a Gun Gale Online and wasn’t too enthusiastic about it. It was ok...

there is a newer season lit but idk if I got the patience for it now

very cool to have the charachter like actually want to die and learn to want to live because of the people around her. it's not something that i've never seen in an anime before- but it's not exactly a common theme either and i'm quite pleased with the execution. i do think Elias was very unlikeable tho and i wish he had more redeeming qualities so that maybe i could have loved him a bit too? like it feels a lot like stockholm syndrome. Chise has no good reason to love this creature- especially after what he was about to do to Stella- who earned Chise's love. It was like literally every charachter deserved love except for him. Maybe it's just because the manga wasn't complete tho like maybe there is more for Elias to learn and grow and his story is just incomplete. Here's hoping for a second season someday.

I haven’t watched Inuyasha (it’s been on my to watch for over a decade) but yeah idk if it would be isekai. That’s like putting yuyu hakusho in isekai. I feel it’s more spiritual/other world anime

inuyasha is absolutely an isekai. "isekai" translates to "another world". the main charachter is from present day japan and she falls down a well and lands in another world. we don't think of older anime as 'isekai' because it's such a modern anime trope but really 'isekai' have existed about as long as anime has.

totoro is very slow. it's a good thing to watch when you feel sick imo. lol. like if you don't feel well and you're half asleep.
