Halloween isn't over until it's the first december #fact
Hi guys, long time no see.
I decided to make a post about "The haunting of Annaliese Michel" a name which might be familiar to most of you guys.
The inspiration to the film "the exorcist" by Scott Derrickson (Watch me butcher his name) the worldknown case questions religion, insanity, actual possession and the question of responsibility of family.
Allegedly , Annaliese was a sixteen year old german teen who attended a catholic school. After a violent attack, doctors gave her the diagnosis of epilepsy, however in spite of being medicated she gradually got worse and worse, causing her to end up in a psychiatric ward due to depression etc.
The teen claimed she saw demons, causing her parents to contact a priest. At this point she had stopped eating and drinking, so her health was at a risk.  She still claimed that she was hearing voices, telling her to do x & x. According to claims, she even consumes her own feces.
After a year long exorcism, Annaliese passed away due to malnourishment. She died of starvation.
The parents and the priest was charged with murder.

(I'll add a few scary/creepy/uncomfortable recording, watch/listen at your own risk - however, are you easily spooked, please don't view this)

For some questions:
Who do you think was responsible?
Do you think it was a fair sentence/charge?
Why do you think it went so wrong?

I'm interested in more

Who do you think was responsible?   Parents and priest
Do you think it was a fair sentence/charge?    Yes
Why do you think it went so wrong?    Because they didnt know anything about extreme mental illness apparently

However given her parents religious background, do you think they should be "forgiven" or let of easier, since they was so uneducated about it?
shouldn't the psychiatric care /system have done something, if they were aware of how bad her state was? Back in the 70's the system wasn't nearly as developed as it is now, however they did have some to say in such cases like this.

No they should be punished harder tbh, because they were stupid and lacked common sense. And yes, but idk how much they could actually do if the parents didnt want to

I checked and she was on antipsychotics for multiple years before but they didnt help, it was probably better for her to be dead than alive tho, with her symptoms and them not being lightened by any drug

Then my best guess is that the healthcare system within mental illness was a completely different story 50 years ago than what it is today. She should have been admitted to a psych ward as she, I am no doctor, exhibited symptoms on some kind of mental illness e.g. schizophrenia combined with something else.
