You cant expect respect towards your team when you dont respect your userbase.
that is very fair. i am box fresh and would very much appreciate a message on how i can do better in showing respect towards the userbase, and how we as a team can improve in that aspect.
Begin by dropping that tech support robot language maybe. Phrasing stuff like that wont make what you say seem smarter or more professional, it only creates a distance between userbase and mods. And try to learn a bit more about the current state of the site and its users

Not writing in the tone/lingo of facebook tech support would be good.
this is also kind of why the whole "OMGGG MOD IN THE THREAD!" thing happens. so much typing like you need to be professional all the time. say poop or pee once in  awhile
what is it with vp and this poop fetish lmao
how is saying poo or pee as a jook a poop fetish?

Not stating those as a "nooo those users are HORRIBLE" as I have literally 0 clue who they are,
And that is a big problem.
When the trust of the people here in the mods is compromised.. It just seems like such a risky choice that might further hurt and make the goal of gaining the users trust in the mods
It just seems like we are yet again regressing with that.

Enforcing such harsh "rules" all of the sudden seems also so not fair, It got worse with time just because the ones that should've taken proper care of things never did, or it was half assed, or happened after so many people complained.
Users complained again and again and again and it IS a problem I HAVE talked about with the admins already, but nothing was done, instead of talking to the people, and listening, there is a wall, and when people decide to act on their own, only then something happens? like..

Why take a shortcut with people that know the "job" instead of investing a bit in people that the community trusts and teach them what they need?
I am certain that there are users here that the community knows, maybe even loves, that could be reliable enough and trusted by the staff and by the userbase
I'm sure that who Clavicle chose will do well with the moderator part but what about the interactions with the community? as far as I remember being here for years by now without taking breaks, the only mod that was actually trying to always interact with people despite the "blue name" was Kofod, until he had his own thing and it stopped.
We have no guarantee that anything will happen with that

Something with the initial team in itself is bad and I believe that the trust in some users that were there for years by now will not recover, ever.
So adding more people when the community is barely alive,
The addition is people that no one knows or chose,
An addition that the people were not aware of nor did any have a say in it,
when the integral issue of the mod team- userbase relationship's problem is the trust..
It's all a nice recipe for disaster in short

Why not do a complete overhaul? Yes it takes time to teach people but lo and behold, with the current activity we're seeing here it is REALLY not that bad if there will be actual new people, because there is not much trouble going around, just the occasional argument here and there

You want actual progress? stop with the shortcuts, give us a bit more credit and respect, and it WILL come back, the whole "oh no blue name" will also disappear and things might get better
thank you for the thorough feedback message. you are making many valid points.

for me, i think the difficult part of recruiting a moderator is trying to find that balance of being likable and being impartial and fair. the rules are set, and moderating with them in mind is the task of a moderator - which makes understanding and agreeing with the rules a crucial aspect of enforcing them.

other important requirements for making a good moderator is actually wanting to moderate, working well with the rest of the moderator team, and oftentimes also being able to take being "the bad guy" on account of enforcing the rules. not saying such users do not exist within this community, but just trying to paint a picture of the multitude of aspects to consider when evaluating a potential moderator.

that being said, being an entrusted member of the majority of the community is definitely a contender for the most important requirement of all. i will bring this up with the team.

Sure thing, just no need to be this formal

Oh believe me, I personally know all about it, as someone with experience in the field,, you WILL be seen as the bad guy, you WILL have to enforce the rules with a blacknwhite outlook, bias will have to go out the window, and of course there are a lot of aspects to who can or might do a good job.

The problem is that the rules were never... EVER, enforced black and white, so many encounters of people getting a pass, a "warning" which was basically a slap on the wrist, was something other people got a TO for.
If at the very least, there was consistency with the enforcement of rules, people here would've been more tolerant, maybe not lash out as much as they do now, but actions speak for themselves, if things were different we wouldn't have been in this situation right now.
