The server cost went up by almost 20% in the last 1.5 years and this is mainly because of increased energy costs as databases need constant cooling. However, the server cost is only one aspect.. I did look into other servers, but the savings are not that great and the cost of moving everything does not justify the savings.
The code is indeed badly written, with lots of bugs and unnecessary loops. Every time the developers need to do something, they have to rewrite this messy code. .. which makes developing expensive as well.

Can you maybe elaborate why the server costs grew that much over the last few years? Way more than inflation.
Would it be an option to look into more efficient ways to store the data and optimize the code?
