Everyone on a team is a volunteer, ofc. It's known when you sign up and join. But when one volunteer gets paid for their hard work, every other team member who puts in all their hardwork ends up feeling like they were just shit on.
I see what you mean, but I think he hired Solovey, so it's not like she is a volunteer anymore.

Also I'm pretty sure Solovey is expected to provide certain amount of sets for a certain amount of time. This way he secured that the game won't be left without any designs. He cannot rely on volunteers, they come and go whenever they feel like it, he needs to be sure someone is around to keep the game alive, so I understand why he pays a designer. As for why he choose Solovey, it's up to his personal preferences. We all like different designers, her style must be closest to what he wants VP to be like...
Also, he pays the team members in a way with game items. That's another thing the division between those items between the teams is messy and some teams get 50 000 credit worthy items in a year, while the others barely get anything... but that could be solved between the teams and discussed so that everyone gets something. I don't think he would interfere in that and things would feel a bit more fair for everyone.
I don't see any badges on you, were you on any teams beforehand?
All designers are expected to provide the website with a certain anount of designes per month. If you've noted since she was hired, less detail is put into their designs to make up for that quota (Still looks great, but quantity over quality is his focus). One designer doesn't secure the websites quantity of clothes, if anything, if all the designers quit except for her then thats when VP would be fuuucked lol

does rely on volunteers to keep his website going. All except one team members are volunteers. Many have been on teams for years, only a few leave as they feel like it. Even then, solovey is free to stop their agreement if she felt like it.
They are all putting in their full efforts and expect nothing, as they knew they were volunteering for this job as mentioned. But when you pay one person and not the rest, that's obviously going to cause issues. Payment with virtual clothes is not equal to payment in cash.
Putting it into perspective for you: you're at work and your boss chooses one person to get paid more.
You've all worked your ass off, you're all good at the work you do and you all bring in a steady income. Your boss notices one coworker because he can visually see the sales they make. Everyone contributes their workload, sales are booming, but one peraon gets the big payoff. No one was expecting to be given a raise or any special treatment, it was just announced out of the blue.
You and everyone else would be upset about this, yeah?
I forgot to add, after everyone expresses their concerns you're told that if you work hard maybe you'll get paid too. As if you guy's weren't doing that already.
