Megan quickly checked her reflection in the mirror, making sure her signature red lipstick was correctly applied. When discovering it had yet to smudge, she smiled happily and turned her attention back to where it should have never left; her fiancé, Jace. Taking her hand in his, she grinned slowly and ruffled his hair with her other hand. “God, I love it when you leave it unruly like this,” she complimented, once again getting lost in those breath taking eyes of his. How she managed to find a boy as fantastic as this one still kept her up at night. It was a mystery, but one thing was for sure. He definitely made her a better person. Jace met her at a very, very low point in her life. A point she’d prefer not revisit, even mentally. And yet, it was hard not to. The nonstop drinking and drug abuse, the loss of memory, the complete disregard for night and day and other social norms people took for granted. She was speeding on the highway to Hell. But Jace saved her. Not religiously speaking, but rather, emotionally. He showed her that it was possible, hell, even preferable, to have a good time without causing abuse to yourself and other people. That was a concept that would have sounded completely foreign to her a year ago. And she owed it all to Jace; the love of her life. The most honest and courageous man she’d ever met.
Aaron’s heart was pounding in his chest. Or at least, it would be, if he had a heart that pounded. In other words, he was nervous. And terribly so. Cassie was present, the time was right. Or at least, as right as it would ever be. He’d spent the last four years lying a lie that could take a millennium to get out of. But he had to do it. He just hoped, prayed, that she would find someone who would treat her better than he would. She deserved it, she deserved the absolute best and nothing less. He wasn’t worthy of her beauty, of her intelligence. If he was, then he wouldn’t have lead her down the road of fakeness, of lies and falsehood. But his biggest wish of all was that she wouldn’t be frightened with him. Assume things that could have never crossed her mind before. It was inevitable, for certain concepts and beliefs revolving around vampires and vampire cultures were hard to shake off. And he would be throwing her into his world head first; with no previous precautions. She was strong and able, he knew that. But exactly how strong and able was she? It would be now or never. “Cassie, darling, may I show you something?” He asked, interrupting the episode of Breaking Bad they were watching. He watched as her head turned in slow motion to face him, the smile that he would miss ever so dearly planted on his face. Come on, Aaron, it was now or never. “May I show you something? It’s quite important,” he stressed.
