Riley stepped out of the car and took a deep breath. It was nice of Rick, to let her take the lead. This was her biggest case yet, maybe biggest case ever. Murders like this one wasn't exactly commonplace in Woods Creek, then again, it wasn't really shocking. It was something in the air, made everyone hate each other.

She opened the door with force, it usually was quite heavy to open. She underestimated her own strength and the door swung open with a loud bang. Great, Riley thought as she approached the bar. I look like a maniac.

"Miles Walker.", She approached. "A word?"
_

Holden shrugged, like he did every time he was asked that question.

"I'm doing good, I think. And I appreciate your honesty.", He said and leaned forward, letting his elbows rest on his legs, whilst staring intensely.

"So, are you're doing a story on my father, or my father's murder?" He then questioned.

As Riley left the car, Rick stayed back and turned up the volume on the radio. Watching her as she entered the bar, he chuckled at her aggressive entrance, before turning back to just listening to the music and playing a game on his phone.

When the door to the bar slammed open, Miles froze on the spot, eyes wide as he noticed it was Riley.
"Uh, s-sure," he stammered before gesturing towards an empty table at the other end of the bar. He wasn't sure if the conversation called for privacy or not, but just in case he made sure to pick a table out of earshot from Kevin.

"I'm here about the circumstances of your fathers death," Lou replied, courtly.

She decided to close the distance between the two of them and grabbed her bag and drink before taking a seat next to Holden on the sofa. With some polite distance, of course.

Taking a sip of her drink before speaking, she said, "It's quite the scandal even outside of Woods Creek, you know."

Riley had all the standard witness questions scribbled down in her notebook, but she didn't really think they would be of any help. He probably didn't know much about the murder itself, rather details leading up to it. Holden Richmond Sr would frequent the bar whenever he was in town. She'd spot him, surrounded by a bunch of older men, but sometimes with a girls a third his age. She figured Miles had to have had some conversations with the guy, or at least overheard something.

She sat down across from him and a sudden wave of confidence washed over her. This was work-Riley, not high-school Riley. She stared intensely at Miles, a way of asserting dominance. She did it every interview, and it tended to work. She had that unfriendly look that made people tell her everything they knew just so they could leave.

"So, Miles. Long time no see.", She said and let her finger trail the edge of the table, a stain of dust forming on the tip.

"How you been?" It was all about making him talk. About whatever. When she finally had him going, the notebook would come in handy.

Holden was well aware that the media had taken interest in his father's death. Although it happened in the middle of nowhere, word had spread like wildfire. He had to admit, the attention felt sort of good. His father would be glad to know people cared enough about his passing to write about it. Hell, he'd expect an entire book.

"I'm sure.", he replied. "Although, the police probably know way more about the circumstances. And by the looks of the report, I'd say they don't know too much either." He then added.

Unsure of what to say, Miles fished his pack of cigarettes out of his back pocket in his trousers and fiddled a bit with the cigarettes, before taking one out.

"Okay, I guess?" He stuck the cigarette between his lips and lit it, taking a big draw before continuing. "What's this about?" He exhaled.

Having known Riley for as long as he had, and with their history in consideration, he wasn't as easily intimidated by her as others seemed to be. Okay, well maybe a little still. He figured he knew what this was about, but why she was talking to him about it, he had no clue.

"I'm not interested in speaking with the police, though." Lou knew Holden was right, the police were of course the main source of knowledge in this case, but they would never talk with journalists. She figured Holden knew this, and knew that was the reason she was sitting here, with him instead. She sighed and looked around the room.

"Big turnout today. Probably the whole town who showed up," she said and looked at Holden. "But you just flew in from L.A., didn't you?" She irked an eyebrow inquisitively, as she asked the question.

Riley sighed and placed the notebook before herself on the table. Miles was pulling out his cigarettes already which was an ambivalent sign. He was in distress, and that could mean two things. Either he'd clam up and she'd end up talking to a no-good wall for thirty minutes, or he'd mess up and reveal something he shouldn't.

"Looking for a job, obviously, any openings?", She said playfully. Interrogating someone was like playing chess, she needed to get inside his head. She knew Miles, which gave her the upper hand, but it could also make her distracted. She knew his tells, he knew hers. She had to play it cool.

"I'm here about Holden Richmond Sr, actually", she began. "I figured you'd know something of value." Honesty. Miles would likely respect that.

_

Holden felt his wounded ego from before heal. A part of him was ashamed that it was so satisfying to know that people were reading up on him. But at least he was self aware, and a self aware narcissist was better than, well, his father.

"That I did. Tell me, what information are you hoping to get out of me that the police won't be able to provide?"  questioned.

Miles rolled his eyes at her comment, then tapped the ash off the end of his cigarette into the ash tray in front of them.

"No, I don't know anything. I haven't spoken with any of them in a while, actually," he confessed. If he was upfront at the beginning, maybe she would leave sooner, he thought. It wasn't exactly the way he had imagined their first real conversation in a long time going; him being interrogated by Officer Riley about the death of Holden's dad. Not that he had been imagining them having a conversation for that matter, but if they were to talk, this was certainly not the way he had thought it would happen.

"He just drinks here sometimes, that's all." He took another drag of his cigarette, exhaling quickly. "Why don't you talk to his wife or something? I don't see how I can help, honestly."

"Well, you knew your father better than they did, for one," she replied playfully. "Maybe you could tell me a little about him?" She knew she should tread carefully when asking Holden personal questions about his relationship with his father. Not that she was an expert on their relationship, but she knew they had had their differences at least.

She took her notebook out of her bag, hoping he would give her something to go on.

"Come on, throw me a bone," she smirked at him, as she sat ready with her pen and paper.

Riley's first impulse was to grill Miles. How dare he tell her how to do her job, and even worse - assume she was bad at it. Maybe he was testing the waters. She stopped her self from taking the bait, and instead leaned back in her seat.

"I know Holden Sr frequented the bar, I figured you might have heard something. Or seen something. A new piece of arm candy? Did anyone come here to vent about the asshole perhaps?", She took a pause. "I know you see things, and I know you also wouldn't want any trouble with the Richmonds. But if you're hiding something, I mean, it's certainly not a threat, but say you were, things wouldn't end... well", She suggested.
_

He chuckled, talking to the press was bad. Really bad. But Holden was like a kid in a candy store, and a little lick couldn't hurt anyone, now could it?

"Holden Richmond was a wildly successful man. Maybe not entirely self made", understatement of the year he thought "...but he knew what to do with what was given to him. And people envied that.",

"Oh, that's certainly not a threat," Miles laughed ironically. He was getting annoyed at the questioning at this point, as he didn't care for the Richmonds – well apart from Holden – and if he actually knew something, there would be no reason for him to come forward. He would want this investigation solved as much as anyone else in this town, so Riley suggesting otherwise agitated him.

"As I said, I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary," he took another draw from the cigarette before putting it out in the ash tray. "Go catch up with Holden instead, why don't you," Miles snapped at Riley, before realising his mistake. He had let her get into his head.

Lou scribbled everything down on her paper, although none of the things Holden said were news to her. She had got him talking though – and at the funeral, nonetheless – so it wasn't going badly, at least. If she were to butter him up a bit more, she bet she could get some actual information over time.

"Hmm, yes, quite the successful business man," she said absentmindedly, while finishing off her notes on the paper. "And hated," she then prompted, looking up and making direct eye contact with Holden. A risky move.

Riley giggled, this was the Miles she remembered from high school. Short tempered, childish. It made her more confident, knowing she'd pushed a button.

"Oh, trust me, I will. But the guy's not gonna give me anything good, as we both know.", She jumped slightly when the back door flew open and Kevin entered the premise. The familiar smell brought back some happier memories. Hm. Maybe she'd buy some sometime, just for fun.

"When did you see Richmond last, Walker?" She inquired.
_

Holden's eyes narrowed, knowing they were headed towards dangerous territory.

"A man with no enemies is a man with no character", he recited. "My father used to say that, Paul Newman I believe. I think there's some truth to that, you don't reach the level of success my father did by playing nice. It's all a grey area.", He said and went to pour himself another drink. "Dad had his own set of morals."
