Jenna’s hands glided against the keyboard of her computer quickly, her head calmly bobbing along to the sound that she had gotten so used to. It now relaxed her to type endless emails, make faxes, print papers, and fill up on coffees. She wished, of course, to be able to work alongside the doctors and animals, but she knew her time would come. She just hoped it was sooner rather than later. And she had to admit, the moment someone was off call she was always called to the scene, even if there was someone available that had more credentials than she. But she supposed she owed that to Owen, her boss, and…well, she wasn’t quite sure what else she could describe him as. He was her friend, she guessed, and yet, at times she wanted to kill him and fantasized about ways of doing so. But she had agreed to go out to dinner with him the previous week, right before he flew off to the East Coast for a conference. He said he might miss his plane because of her, but that she was worth every minute he got delayed. But were they dating? She wasn’t quite sure. And she wouldn’t know until he returned from his trip. And to be honest, she wasn’t quite sure if she wanted to know. Was she ready for a relationship? Already? And that certainly wouldn’t look good on her resume. Dating her boss. She doubted her coworkers would treat her with very much respect either. They all already felt as if there was something going on between the two of them, and treated her harshly for it. Or at least, the female workers who wished for Owen’s attention did. Finishing up her paper, she hit sent and stood from her seat, deciding she was long due for a coffee break. She didn’t take many. Picking up her purse, she walked through the company’s building and made it toward the elevator. She knew there was coffee in the lounge, but to be honest, she was the one who prepared it each morning and knew just how bad it was. She’d trust Starbuck’s baristas over herself any day.
Jace nodded his head to the man who was speaking to him, but wasn’t at all aware of what he was saying. And that was wrong. He should know, he should be overly alert and analyzing the gentlemen’s body language and verbal gestures. And yet, he could very well be singing the Teletubbies theme song, and he wouldn’t notice. That was because he couldn’t get the picture of Jade out of his head. She accidently sent him a photo he wasn’t supposed to be the receiver of. Or at least, if he was, he had to give her props for originality. But he knew otherwise, that Jade wasn’t that kind of girl. She liked to play hard to get. She was a sweet, friendly girl, but always turned down his advances in the most polite way possible. Perhaps she wouldn’t let him done so easily if he hadn’t given her the job, but that was okay. He debated whether to mention the picture or not. Maybe she would bring it up with him? Burst into his office and confess how sorry she was for being unprofessional. Cry a little. He’d console her on his desk, rub her back and say everything would be okay. That it was an accident, and he didn’t respect her any less. But he doubted that would happen, he doubted she even knew he received the picture. Because when he greeted her this morning she hadn’t appeared embarrassed at all. “Yes, sir, that sounds perfect,” Jace finally blurted out, hoping the poor guy would shut up already. His face light up, and he extended his arm to him. “That’ll be all, Mr. Barker,” the man said, getting his suitcase and heading out the door. Success! If he knew it would be that easy he would have agreed a while ago. Now, what exactly did he agree to…?
