I can be friends with them but I tell them straight up that I can't hang around with their friend. I've spent too much of my life hanging around shit people and I'm not doing that anymore.

If you would become friends with someone, it wouldn't mean you'd have to bother with the person you hate though. I keep thinking it's unnecessarily judging in most cases, because all people are different. To me it would be kinda interesting to find out what the other likes about the one I hate

At my college, there is someone I don't like who is friends with a lot of people I know.
We used to be friends in a large group (me and the person at school). They all turned against me. She, in particular, shouted abuse at me in the school corridors and was very horrible about my best friend. Admittedly, she isn't as bad now that she is alone and I know she has good qualities. But she has never acknowledged what she did to me, how she made me feel and all I want is a simple apology. 
She has tried to be my friend since without doing that.

I don't judge people I don't know and I am welcome to befriend anyone, despite what my predjudice thinks because I can ignore it. But I don't put myself through befriending someone again who broke my loyalty. She and the others made my life hell even when we were "friends" 

It's not a horrible thing to say you don't want to be friends with people you know you don't like

that's a good point. but I don't mind, cause maybe they have their reasons to not wanting to befriend them, altho the person (or people) might not be like the person they dislike

Sounds like the right way to me. You allow them to be your friend, but they have to keep in mind you can't get along with their friend. Assertive!

Very understandable you don't want to be friends with her when she seems to show no empathy for your feelings. No, I'm exclusively speaking about people others don't know personally yet haha.

Bc it depends, if that person have like +200 friends i don't mind. That person don't probably even know half of them. But if that person have clearly only the closest friends on friendlist then it's different thing.
Bc people usually are friends with people like them ( same interests, sense of humor, group of friends, etc. ) And if I don't like his friends I probably don't like him either.
