Actors of a marginalised community have it hard enough to land roles as it is, when there is a role that is part of that community and even then they don't get that role, that's kind of fucked up.

I mean if a character in a book is discribed as a dark haired 16yo who is 6'2 you probably wouldn't cast danny devito for that role either (except if it's a parody maybe)

No but let’s say you’re handed a script with a chick who plays the violin. Does the part have to go to only violin playing actors? Or can an actor who can “act” like the play the violin, do just as great a job?
