Anachronism wrote: yeah I've thought about trying the new stuff but I just cbf tbh. I'm glad you agree with the vocals! that's the main thing about them that puts me off. Not pop-punk but I also did not like Sonny Moore's band (I forget the name) specifically because of the vocals.
I like haminess (PATD has changed sound with every album but they never lost the theatrics; Dresden Dolls were also quite theatrical) but it just didn't work for MCR imo. They had a bit of a glam rock bent (which was very clear with The Black Parade. The first two were tolerable but not for me whereas that one I just couldn't deal with) and it felt off to me. It seemed to clash with everything else they were doing. I don't dislike them particularly though, as I do adore Demolition Lovers. Just not my taste.
It is kinda odd though because I do enjoy Brand New and The Used and some Falling In Reverse/Escape the Fate and they're all kinda similar... but I do think MCR is certainly more outlandish in comparison. Yet the nasally whining of FOB or STD is certainly grating for some and I totally understand that. lmfao!
also have u listened to SDRE? If not give this a go:
if you like it you will love Diary.
I didn't think music could be too pop punk for me but i have a very distinct memory of digging around in the Blink-182 spotify and being suddenly extremely hit with pop punk fatigue like "im so sick of these guys singing about their girls and these cords and oh my god is this the kind of music i actually enjoy" but i may have just had a bad day lol. I do have a soft spot for What's My Age Again? tho despite it being like the dumbest song in existence, "what the hell is ADD" indeed. Also im currently 23 so i think im contractually obligated to like that song or something. But yeah not liking the singer's voice is one of the most immediate deal breakers i can have with a band and while DeLonge doesn't have the most annoying voice it's still something i can only listen in moderation.
Yeah sometimes bands just don't click with you and it's quite hard to explain why it's not working. Music is wild like that how the thing that's the main selling point for some might be the thing that annoys others the most. Or like sometimes you try to listen to a band many times and every time you're just like "i don't get it" and then suddenly you do get it. Go figure.
God i love most versions of Panic! but the cabaret circus hell of the first album will always be my favourite.
Ah thinking about Brand New makes me sad, i used to think Deja Entendu was one of the best albums ever made but i haven't been able to listen to it since the... news. I fully support separating art from the artist and such but it just feels wrong now and that makes me sad.
I'm pretty sure i tried to listen to SDRE when i had my Foo Fighters phase lmao but i don't think i fully got it then. Listening now i quite like it tho!
Also how dare you remind people of Ohio is for Lovers, that song is so cursed lol
I had a shitty time as a teen and love Nirvana's Come As You Are so Adam's Song was the one that resonated with me.
he sounds congested when he sings lol
oh yeah when I first discovered emilie autumn I thought I hated her music. multiple play-throughs in and I was soon to become largely involved in the fandom and drawing hearts on my cheek and lips. oh boy.
AFYCSO will always resonate but slowly but surely I'm starting to declare Death of a Bachelor a fav. They are just such a fun and inspiring band overall that exudes so much energy. Fall out boy just makes you feel like sitting in a corner staring at your shoes while you overthink yourself and your life (first four albums anyhow.)
that's understandable but I'm not paying for their music or going to shows so I'll continue to love TDAGARIM (my personal favorite)
I could only get into the first foo fighter album
oh man the memories of all the scene kids writing "r.i.p casey calvert"on their jeans, sneakers and binders. tbh I think everyone forgot about them after that. how sad.
AFYCSO is a strange masterpiece made by a bunch of goddamn children, it will probably be my fave Panic! at the Disco album forever but yeah Death of a Bachelor was seriously really good. Pretty sure it's my favourite post-Ryan record as well honestly. Unfortunately Pray for the Wicked could not keep the same energy alive, it's an alright album but doesn't feel as focused. It's just more "woo party and im great" when those themes were not what made DoaB good in the first place.
It's so unfortunate, Brand New is such a good band. Part of me really still wishes i could have kept my relationship with Deja Entendu intact as well but it's ruined now. Why are garbage humans garbage and how dare they still be good musicians sigh
I know current Foo Fighters is like the core Contemporary Dad Rock™ but they still have a very warm spot in my heart. How about the second album? That seems to often be the favourite of people who only like early Foo. I'm not one of those people tho, Wasting Light is my fave and i don't even care lol

I honestly hate most people in the entertainment industry so I just have to think I'm supporting the production of their art or craft rather than the person. I understand how it upset you but unfortunately a lot of great entertainers have sexual abuse accusations ):
the second is alright but the self-entitled is always going to be my favorite. my first BF really enjoyed the second. Always played Everlong on rockband. It's ok, but doesn't speak out to me.
I honestly only listened to the first three by the used but I loved them all.
the used was my absolute fave, still do love them :"D
cut up angels! I liked them so much more than MCR; MCR was overrated imo. I mean I didn't dislike them but they just didn't resonate for me. Like I said only a few songs.
also BATW is what got me into the used! nostalgia!
Anachronism wrote: brighter is always going to be my favorite paramore song tbh
they really changed so much though since this sort of style/aesthetic is out-dated and honestly I'm liking this power-pop new wave thing they've got going on a lot.
lmfao I remember when this came out I vaguely liked it but it just sounded like everything else I listened to so I forgot about the entire band within a day.
I kinda liked the lyrics though. idk it was neat to have a song raising awareness about domestic violence on mainstream radio. I'm such an SJW.
