I really enjoy folk music and female singer-songwriters so I was expecting to love her. Liked the instrumentation to Peach, Plum Pear immediately, yet was not expecting that terrible shrieking and thought she was trying too hard to be quirky. I thought Florence and the Machine was pretty similar with far superior vocals. However the glorious harp and harpsichord and everything was so beautiful. After re-listening to The Milk-eyed Mender about 15 times I ended up not just tolerating her voice but growing to love it. She's become one of my all time favorite female singer-songwriters. I actually think her voice adds a very quaint, ethereal, fairy-tale, story-book sort of vibe to her music. It actually works for it rather than against it I think.
