Honestly I could be here for days. Singer-songwriter is probably my favorite genre; females especially. I hate Jewel though (minus two songs.) That surprises everyone. I particularly really like Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, Bjork, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Tracy Chapman, Regina Spektor, Annie Lennox, Nora Jones, Missy Higgins, Ani Difranco, St Vincent, Florence Welch, Feist, Loreena Mckenitt, Kimya Dawson, Natalie Merchant, and many, many more.
I used to love Emilie Autumn, and I think she counts. Enchant in particular is very similar to Tori Amos in many places. Second Hand Faith has been compared to Fiona Apple and I definitely see that. It's pretty jazzy and Fiona Apple was inspired by Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday (so was Emilie allegedly. I also adore Billie and Ella.)
Alexa Woodward deserves more love:
As does Hannah Fury:
Hannah Fury in particular was interesting because it felt like it'd be what Tori Amos would sound like if Regina Spektor wrote the lyrics for her.
I also love The Sneaky Mister. Super underrated and I've followed her for years now:
Her defunct band Pretty Balanced was great:
My ex-bf discovered SJ Tucker and she's hella cool. I like the renaissance fair vibe she gives off:
