What's the weirdest experience you've ever had/the weirdest thing you've ever seen, in a fandom online or IRL?
Seeing a repost from one of my fandom friends has just reminded me of one of the darker sides to my main fandom.
In my fandom, we have an online account "brand" across multiple social media which constantly baffles me. The person(s) behind this account constantly lies about activities related to my fav band and some people actually believe it.
The lies and false releases include:
- A fake announcement about an NYE performance.
- A fake cinema release at an absurd time (in the middle of school or work times!).
- An already released remix stolen and recaptioned to represent something else "unreleased"
There's no way to take the account down since it's impersonation without being impersonation - the page is it's own "brand", but the owner(s) pretend to have authority and insight they don't.
I'm completely weirded out.
What's the weirdest thing you have ever seen in your own fandom(s)?
