ET: Ascension to Asgard - Battle of the Bards

Brave warriors of VP! I bring a message from the Aesir of old.

The Aesir have granted 15 females and 7 males a spot in Valhalla among the Einherjer. The Ejnherjer are all Viking warriors who died in battle. Now they feast and fight in Valhalla.
The Aesir only want the best of the best, so you have to fight for your spot. It is not enough to only be good at one thing to survive the battle: you must be skilled in many areas.

This battle will take place during four rounds, each with a different discipline you have to conquer. After each round your performance will be judged, and the best in each discipline will receive a token for their efforts.

Beside a spot in Asgard, the bravest warriors will also receive a gorgeous outfit designed by @mikkelrev so they can be well dressed when they arrive.

But do you have what it takes to earn a spot in Odin's Hall?

The first challenge the Aesir have given is the Battle of the Bards. Poetry and music are important things, and being a good skjald - also known as bard - brings a lot of honour to the individual. For after all, who doesn't want some good entertainment after spending all day fighting and feasting?

To win the Battle of the Bards, you have to write a poem based on Asgard, the realm of the Aesir. The poem must be at least 50 words long and no longer than 300. As the poems have to impress the Aesir, they have to be written in the Old Nordic style. This means your poem has to have at least two stanzas. It doesn't have to rhyme, but amazing allitterations will be appreciated.

As few living people has ever seen the realm, the god of poetry, Bragi, has kindly provided some description:

Asgard is the realm of the Aesir. It is a mighty stronghold, and a place of beautiful green plains and shining palaces high over Midgard, the realm of humans. It is connected to Midgard through Bifrost, a flaming rainbow bridge of incredible strength made with magic and great skill. Asgard itself is surrounded by a high and strong wall. Inside the wall are all the halls of the Gods. Valhalla, also known as Hall of the Slain, is the most magnificent of all. It is a palace roofed with golden shields and has no less than 540 doors. it is the All-father, Odin's, seat and is where all slain warriors live until it is time for Ragnarok, the end of the world. The great world-tree Yggdrasil has one of it's three roots in Asgard.

You have until the end of Frigga's day to post your entry. That means, the deadline for posting entering is Friday September 11th, 23.59 CEST. Entries posted after that time will not be counted. You can see what time it is here.

The Aesir does not have many rules, but those that are, are as following:

No side accounts
The entry must be an original work
- Post your poem in this thread before the deadline. If you want to change something, delete the entry and make a new post

Breaking those is not something a brave and honest warrior will do, so if the rules are not followed your entry will not count.

To honour the greatest poems, the Aesir have provided the following prizes made by @Somsoc. The hairs are imbued with magic, and if your poetry is good enough, you might get it to change it's colour.

Best of luck, and may the battle begin!

Ascension to Asgard - FaQ

Q: How many rounds will there be? And what do you have to do in them?
A: There will be four rounds. Each round will have a different theme and discipline. These will be revealed when the time comes.

Q: How are the entries judged?
A: The entries are judged on multiple parameters: the quality of the entry, how creative it is - are there five similar-looking ones? - and how well the entry fits the theme. After judging, the entry will receive a score from 1-10 from each judge. Those with the most points will win the round. After the last round, all the scores will be added together to find the main winners. That means not doing so well in one round doesn't immediately mean you don't have a chance to win the main prize.

Q: If you don't join one round can you still participate in the other rounds?
A: You can! However, it is better for your winning chances if you write a 'bad' poem than not entering at all. And who knows, maybe you'll surprise yourself?

Q: Is the hair and the set a prize for all 4 contests, or just this one?
A: The hair is for the winners of this round. The male and female sets are the main prizes for the people who gets the highest scores put together from all four rounds.

Battle of the Bards - FaQ

Q: What exactly do we have to do?
A: You must make a poem inspired by Asgard and it has to have at least two stanzas.

Q: What is a stanza?
A: A stanza is the same as a verse in a song, so a group of lines that makes a unit

Q: I don't know much about Norse Mythology, please provide some more inspiration
A: Check out the following links - some have useful sub-links as well: Britannica, Wikia (but a bit nerdy), The Norse Gods and a very in-depth encyclopedia

Yup, that's basically it. Stanzas are like verses of a song, it is just called stanzas in poetry
