that's the appeal of a hunt and sometimes they have to limit prizes given out

We often don't keep updated on how many is left as we often don't necessarily open the messages and send out prizes the moment we receive the first message. 

We can't give out to all every day, but as we are doing it every day until Christmas a lot of people should hopefully get a chance to participate. This is also why the elf doesn't run away at the same time of day every day. This event is just for fun and a way to have something happening every day, and that is also why the prizes aren't huge.

Yes. But, the amount of people change from day to day, and if you don't get it one day you still have a chance the rest of the month. 
(And there are still plenty left today)
