You are unable to tear your eyes away from her face. The blushing lips and flushed cheeks make the mask feel almost alive. You are unable to see her eyes, and the empty sockets make you feel uneasy. Unable to control your curiosity, you reach out to touch it, but she turns away before you can. 

"You will find all of your things moved into your room already. I will retire to my room for the night, and you should do the same."

As you try to sleep, you are unable to stop thinking about the mask. I seemed so real, so alive. You must get a better look. Unable to control yourself any further, you sneak into her bedroom. She is fast asleep, unmoving in her bed. You find the mask on her bedside table, illuminated by a beam of moonlight streaming in though the window. This close, you can see all the incredibly lifelike details. There are wrinkles around the mouth and eyes, pores and small blemishes in the skin, and real hair for the eyelashes. You reach out to touch it. The skin is unbelievably soft, and if feels warm against your hands. 

Suddenly, the mask begins to crumble under your fingertips. You frantically try to catch the pieces, but they turn to dust before you can get to them. 

"Ah, what a shame." Says a chilling voice behind you. You are unable to move as a cold shiver racks your body. "My mask is ruined. I suppose I'll have to make another one."

You turn to see the lady of the house, but she is upon you before you can scream.




"Your face will do nicely."
